The book, designed to help parents teach their children about money, is published by Kansas City-based Stowers Innovations, Inc.

The Learning® Magazine 2007 Teachers’ ChoiceSM Award for the Family recognizes educational products that excel in the home environment. Judges who are both teachers and parents, evaluate the entries based on educational value, originality and creativity, ease of use, and high-interest level and motivation for children.

Illustrated by MAD Magazine cartoonist Paul Coker, Jr., Yes, You Can... Raise Financially Aware Kids is an easy-to-read resource on spending, saving and investing that includes age-appropriate ability activities for pre-school, elementary, middle- and high-school children.

“We are honored to have this book recognized as a resource for both teachers and parents as they teach their students and children to become financially independent members of society,” said Scott Oberkrom, American Century Investments Director of Community Investments.

Yes, You Can... Raise Financially Aware Kids, takes the principles of child development and applies them to basic financial concepts that children need to experience. The book looks at developing a kid-size budget, giving allowances, how to involve children in everyday finances, creating a priority system to manage “wants,” and understanding purchasing decisions.

“Many children learn about finances from observing how their parents and adult mentors earn, spend and talk about money,” said Oberkrom. “Yes, You Can... Raise Financially Aware Kids is a great tool for parents and teachers working to help their kids make smart financial decisions.”
